This is hereby notified to all concerned that the new PhD Regulations 2016, Gauhati University is now released following the approval and confirmation in the meeting of the Academic Council, GU in its meeting held on 30 August, 2016 and comes into effect from this date of notification i.e. Friday, 16 September, 2016. All procedures concerning the degree of PhD are now will be governed by these regulations.
This notification has the approval of the Honourable Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University.
Application for Recognition as Research Guide, Gauhati University

This is hereby notified to all concerned that the application procedure for recognition of new research guides (research supervisors) is now open. Prospective applicants can now apply using the Online Application Facility (OAF) anytime during the academic year. The applications will be processed as and when they will be received at this office.
Meeting of the Academic Council on 31 August, 2016

A meeting of the Academic Council is being convened on Wednesday, 31 August, 2016 to finalise the Draft PhD Regulations 2016, which now incorporates the UGC's Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of MPhil/PhD Degree, published on 5th May, 2016.
The proposed agenda:
- Discussion and finalisation of Draft PhD Regulations, 2016, Gauhati University
- Approval of CBCS Syllabi for PG departments of GU (subject to approval from the respective Faculties)
The members of the Academic Council are advised to download the Draft PhD Regulations 2016, Gauhati University from the Notices (Secured) site.
MPhil Admissions : 2016-17

It is hereby notified to all concerned that the process of MPhil admission to various subjects in different Post Graduate department of Gauhati University for the academic session 2016-17 will be completed by July 31, 2016.
Selected applicants are hereby requested to contact the concerned department for this purpose. The fee structure (to be paid in two installments) is given below:
Note : Any applicant, who is a service holder with a permanent or temporary employment with any organisation, MUST produce a Proof of Leave, so as to enable the applicant to pursue this course.For Faculties of Arts, Law, and Fine Arts : Rs. 20,000.00 (twenty thousand)For Faculties of Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, Commerce, and Management : Rs. 25,000.00 (twenty five thousand)
Regarding PhD Scholars with Supervisors from Colleges

This is with reference to all the PhD Scholars of GU (with PhD registration from 2010 onwards), who have Thesis Supervisors from Non-PG Affiliated Colleges under GU.
Pursuant to the resolution of the meeting of the Academic Council held on 31 May, 2016, it has now been notified that all those PhD Scholars (with PhD Registration, GU from 2010 onwards) with their supervisors from Non-PG Affiliated College (under GU) can apply to the Chairman of the DRC (of the respective PG Department) for change of PhD Supervisor from the present one to one either from the concerned PG Department (GU) (or an allied Department) or from an Affiliated PG College (under GU). In such cases, the present supervisor from Non-PG Affiliated College will be the Co-Supervisor.
This notification has the approval from the Honourable VC of GU.

Changes in TDC Courses
This is with reference to the TDC courses under Gauhati University and will be in force in force from the next academic session i.e. 2016-17.
It is hereby notified to all concerned that
- A TDC student opting for Statistics Major will be required to simultaneously opt for Mathematics as a general subject
- A TDC student without Mathematics in the HS level may now be allowed to opt for Statistics as a general subject
- A student majoring in an Indian language paper in TDC, is allowed to opt for MIL in the same language as a core subject
This notification has the approval of the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University and has the approval of the Academic Council (vide resolution of the meeting of the Academic Council, GU, held on 31 May, 2016)
Changes in MPhil Regulation 2015
The following line in Clause 3 (ii), Page 3, Line 1 of MPhil Regulation 2015 of Gauhati University, which reads as
“The students who appeared in the final semester examination . . .”
will now read as
“The students appearing in the final semester examination . . .”
This change will be in force immediately. This notification has the approval of the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University and has the approval of the Academic Council (vide resolution of the meeting of the Academic Council, GU, held on 31 May, 2016).

Information Regarding PhD Award List

It is hereby notified to all concerned that we shall no longer provide photocopies of monthly PhD Award List either to the supervisors or to the scholars. On the first working day of every month this list is put up in our website (see above, PhD Award List) by 5:00 PM and we try to adhere to this schedule as much as possible.
Interested persons are requested to download this list from the above site. Supervisors and scholars are also requested NOT TO make unnecessary visits to this office for this purpose.
Important Information for Submission of PhD Thesis

Research Scholars, who are submitting their PhD theses, are hereby directed to first upload the soft copies of their theses and synopses / abstracts prior to submitting hard copies of the theses using the uploading link available in the drop down menu from of Evaluation of Thesis (from the top navigation bar).
On successful upload, an Acknowledgement Slip will be generated, which will be e-mailed to the scholar. The scholar is required to take a printout of the Acknowledgement Slip and submit it along with the hard copies of the thesis to this office.
Note that without the Acknowledgement Slip, the hard copies of thesis WILL NOT be accepted.

Submission of Panel of Examiners for PhD Thesis Evaluation

Starting from 14 March, 2016, this office will stop accepting paper copy or email containing list for Panel of Examiners for PhD Thesis Evaluation. This process is made entirely online which is available through this site (look at the section "Thesis Examination" in the navigation bar above).
In this regards, a notice has already been published in the website on Friday, 4th March, 2016
