A Common Entrance Test will be held (Subject Wise) across the state for admission into various Masters Courses spanning across 49 Postgraduate Departments in the campus and the affiliated colleges spread out in the State of Assam.

There are a number of important changes to the whole admission process, this time. So, it is advisable that all prospective applicants and their guardians go through the different highlights given below in this page.

A Common Entrance

A common entrance test (subject wise) will be held for all seats available for all Masters Courses in the Postgraduate Departments of the university (in the Campus) and all Masters Courses in various affiliated colleges.

No college will be admitting ANY student in their Masters Courses under Gauhati University away from this admission process.

Therefore, a prospective student desiring to take admission in a subject (in any Masters Course) either in the Campus or in the affiliated colleges, MUST go through this admission process, which begins with filling up of the online admission form.

Test Centres

The Entrance Test will be held simultaneously in 12 (eleven) Test Centres across the state (10 Centres) and the neighbouring states (2 Centres), including GU.

The Test Centres are:
  • Gauhati University

  • Bongaigaon (Assam)
  • Darrang (Assam)
  • Dibrugarh (Assam)
  • Diphu (Assam)
  • Jorhat (Assam)
  • Nagaon (Assam)
  • North Lakhimpur (Assam)
  • Pathsala (Assam)
  • Silchar (Assam)

  • Meghalaya
  • Arunachal Pradesh
Seat Matrix

Traditional Courses
  • 50% all available seats in a subject (institution wise) are reserved for students who have passed the qualifying examination from Gauhati University.

    The admission in this category will be based on weightage from the Entrance Test as well the marks in the qualifying examination.

  • The remaining 50% is OPEN to all students, irrespective of any universities including Gauhati University.

    The admission in this category will be solely based on the performance in the Entrance Test.

Interdisciplinary Courses

All available seats will be filled up solely on the basis of performance of the Entrance Test and will be open to students from any university including Gauhati University.
