The Venue

The Birinchi Kumar Barua Auditorium, popularly known as the BKB Auditorium is one of the iconic structures in the Gauhati University Campus. Located just opposite to the Administrative Complex, by the side of the main Academic Block, it is a state-of-the-art auditorium with a capacity of about 1800, which has been a witness to many historic events. It is named after one of the most eminent littérateurs of Assam and one of the founders of Gauhati University, Dr Birinchi Kumar Barua.

Dr Birinchi Kumar Barua
1908 - 1964

Born on November 10 in 1908, Dr Birinchi Kumar Barua was a folklorist, scholar, novelist, playwright, historian, linguist, educationist, administrator and an eminent 20th century littérateur of Assam, with both scholarly and creative pursuits. Barua was the pioneer in the study of folklore in North East India, and was one of the many founders of Gauhati University. Barua's contributions to Assamese literature are significant, both as a novelist and as an early literary critic.
