Structure of GU-RET
  1. The GU-RET is an examination comprising of two parts (a) a common part to test the applicant’s knowledge about reasoning & aptitude, mental ability, and basic computer awareness, and research methodology etc. (relevant for the subject concerned only), (b) a subject part, which specifically tests the applicant’s depth of knowledge in the subject concerned.

The duration of GU-RET 2019 is 2 hours.
  1. The GU-RET structure for the year 2019 is given below

Exemption from GU-RET
  1. Exemption from appearing in the GU-RET does not mean automatic admission into the M.Phil./Ph.D. Programme. It is just a benefit awarded to certain deserving applicants. An exempted applicant will necessarily have to go through the process of Counselling before she/he can be admitted into the M.Phil./Ph.D. Programme. Hence, all deserving candidates should apply through the Central Application Process (CAP). Recipient of CSIR/UGC-JRF, ICMR-JRF, ICAR-JRF, DBT-JRF and any National Level Fellowship / Scholarship (awarded for the MPhil/PhD prgramme by a National Agency, such as INSPIRE Fellowship) are exempted from appearing in the GU-RET. Eligible International Students are also exempted from appearing in the GU-RET.
  2. Exemption from appearing in GU-RET can be availed only once. If an applicant has been exempted once and did not appear in the Counselling session, s/he will not be given any exemption in the future. However, the applicant can appeal for exemption in writing, citing sufficient reasons why he/she should be exempted.
  3. The final admission of exempted applicants into the M.Phil./Ph.D. programme will be limited to a maximum of 50% (fifty percent) of total admitted applicants in any discipline in any academic year. Therefore, a candidate who is exempted from GU-RET may appear in GU-RET for admission through GU-RET, if the candidate is unable to get a seat out of the 50% seats.
  4. It should be NOTED that irrespective of any exemption from appearing in the GU-RET 2019 that might be awarded to a prospective applicant, the applicant MUST complete the CAP and pay the requisite fee.
  5. We shall publish the list of Exempted Applicants prior to GU-RET 2019 i.e.before  6th July, 2019. Click here to see the important dates.

After GU-RET
  • The university will publish a merit list for each subject (in this website only) based on the performance of the student in the GU-RET 2019.
  • The merit lists will be considered by each department for the admission in the subject(s) concerned.
