Genesis

Most often the Gauhati University community and communities living around the campus were hitherto neglected by the big media houses earlier. And as a educational institution, it is a long felt need of this University to connect all the community of this institution and to create a learning platform for students and other people also.

The first day of March, 2011 has marked a new beginning in the history of Gauhati University asDr. SreedherRamamurtyformally launched RADIO LUIT, the first Campus Based Community Radio of the North-East. Dr. Sreedher, a pioneer of Indian Community Radio movement, heads the Asian Mission of the Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver, Canada. Prof. GautamBarua, Director, IIT, Guwahati and Prof. M. Taher, Retd. Professor & Head, Department of Geography, Gauhati University graced the occasion as the guests of honour. Prof. O. K. Medhi, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University presided over the function. Faculty members, officers, employees, students of the Gauhati University and a large number of people including prominent citizens from the neighboring areas attended the function.

Established at the premises of the Instituteof Distanceand Open Learning, the Community Radio Station named after the mighty LUIT. It will endeavor to give voice to the hopes and aspirations of not only the Gauhati University Community but also the people living around the University.


Thematic Focus

Radio Luit always tries to focus any kind of troubles carried by this community. Sometimes, people even do not know what the problems they are facing are in day to day life. They live with the problems assuming them essential. To signify the problems and show them the path of right is a primary thematic focus of Radio Luit. Moreover, Radio Luit is playing a generic role to focus the theme of ‘Discovering talents within the community and individuals’.

Innovations in Format

Generally, Radio Luit makes programme in formats of Talk, discussions, Drama, Features, Phone-in interactive, Folk and modern songs performed by the community etc. From the perspective of innovation, Radio Luit is planning some new document based series programmes with full of participation of the community.
